My Approach

I take a holistic approach and value your individuality and your context – after all we all live complex lives. I believe ultimately you are your own best expert, but you might have just got stuck somewhere experiencing difficult situations, thoughts and emotions. Exploring together we can work to shift that stuckness and help you to move on.

As we explore together, I will draw on a variety of theoretical perspectives, creative explorations and practical tools to help you to better understand yourself and the choices you make in life. We will work in an active partnership where you can test out, explore, reflect, play and experience yourself to gain deeper understanding that you can then take into your ‘real’ life – after all that’s what really counts.

I am also a qualified BWY yoga teacher with considerable experience in mindfulness and meditation. We can also explore how mindfulness and meditation can be another form of support to develop if that is of interest to you.

Frequently asked questions

What happens in the first session?

This is a free 30 minute session. It gives you a chance to tell me about yourself, what’s brought you here now and what you hope to get from therapy. It gives you a chance to ask any questions. Importantly it is a chance to decide if it feels right for us to work together. Interestingly research shows the client/therapist relationship is the most significant factor in determining the success of the therapy – not the style of therapy.

What happens next?

Either during or after the first session we will decide if we are going to work together. I usually suggest we agree to work for 4 sessions and then review where we are. Perhaps you have got what you want – then great we can end. Perhaps the sessions feel helpful and you would like to continue. Perhaps counselling doesn’t feel right or a good fit for you so we can agree to end or I can offer support to find an alternative approach/therapist.

How long should I have therapy for?

There is no one answer. Some issues can be well supported and shifted in short term 6 or 12 weeks sessions. Other issues benefit from longer term work. In my experience clients begin to get a good flavour of what they want to achieve even when they weren’t quite sure to begin with. Whatever you decide I believe in your autonomy and will support you to reflect regularly on our work and how it’s benefitting you.

What is your cancellation policy?

I require 48 hours notice of a cancelled session. If you are unable to give me 48 hours notice I will try to find an alternative slot in the week that is mutually convenient to re-schedule (this may need to be online). I will always endeavour to give you as much notice as possible if I will need to miss a session.

What are your fees?

£50 for a 50 minute session.

I offer some concessionary spaces so please contact me for details.
